Calgary Marriott Downtown Hotel Wedding: A Summer Dream

Shelaine and Ben had a beautiful summer day for their Calgary Marriott Downtown Hotel wedding. As their Full Planning wedding planner, I had the pleasure of guiding them through every step of the planning process. Living outside of Alberta, they needed someone reliable to be their heels on the ground—and that’s where I came in.

Everyone knows that Calgary’s late summer weather can be unpredictable, but Shelaine and Ben were blessed with one of the most beautiful weekends in August. The sky was clear, the weather was warm, and their wedding exuded romance and elegance.

The First Look & Wedding Party Photos

The day began with Shelaine and Ben’s first look at the Calgary Central Library. The library’s stunning architecture provided a spectacular backdrop for their photos. With its five levels and over 600,000 items, the library opened in 2018 and has quickly become a favorite spot for wedding photographers.

After their first look, the wedding party took more photos inside the library and then returned to the Calgary Marriott Downtown Hotel to prepare for the ceremony. Ensuring everything ran smoothly, I coordinated with the photographers and wedding party to make sure we stayed on schedule and captured all the important moments.

The Ceremony

Shelaine and Ben chose the Calgary Marriott Downtown for its special significance to them. Their color scheme of navy, burgundy, gold, soft pink, and a hint of mustard yellow perfectly captured the transition from summer to fall.

From the outset, Shelaine and Ben prioritized their guests' experience. I worked closely with them to design a welcoming and fun atmosphere. As guests arrived, they were greeted with cocktails and an outdoor sitting space, allowing them to mingle before the ceremony.

The ceremony took place on the hotel’s rooftop patio, offering gorgeous views of the surrounding buildings. The patio was large enough to accommodate both a cocktail space and the ceremony setup, providing a seamless transition for the guests.

The Reception

Originally, we planned to hold the reception outside, but as the wedding day approached, we decided to move it indoors to ensure guests’ comfort. I coordinated all the logistics to make this transition smooth and stress-free.

We created personalized place cards that doubled as guest favors, each containing a hand-written letter from Shelaine and Ben. This unique and heartfelt touch made every guest feel appreciated and even closer to the couple.

Following a delicious dinner catered by the hotel, the outdoor patio was transformed for the evening. With string lights and comfortable seating, the downtown Calgary skyline provided a stunning backdrop. Guests danced the night away to the lively tunes of New Soul Duo and DJ Yaya.

Final Thoughts

Working with Shelaine and Ben was an absolute joy. Despite living in Ontario, we bridged the distance through regular calls and meticulous planning. As their dedicated planner in Calgary, I ensured every detail was perfect and their vision came to life. From start to finish, I was there to support them, making their wedding planning journey enjoyable and stress-free.

Shelaine and Ben’s wedding was a true reflection of their love and the wonderful connection we built together. It was a day filled with warmth, joy, and unforgettable moments, and I am grateful to have been a part of it.
